Long Meg and Her Daughters

As Spring was definitely in the air at the weekend we thought we'd round up the kids for a tromp through to Lacey's Caves and Long Meg & Her Daughters. With a vauge remembering of it's whereabouts we packed the wellies and headed off. 

It turned out there was no easy route to Lacey's Caves that a four year old would manage(now we know there is) but it was quite easy to find Long Meg & Her Daughters.

An ancient stone circle, Long Meg is the tallest of the 69 stones which date back to 1500BC. Legend tells it Long Meg and her Daughters were witches, who on profaning the Sabbath by dancing skyclad on the moor were turned to stone as a punishment.

 The circle is meant to endowed with magic, meaning different Pagan/Wiccan groups often have meetings there. The trees inside the circle are adorned with trinkets, glowsticks and ribbons from people casting magic here. I hope who ever went to the yarn heart effort got there wish.

 I think maybe a lot of love spells are cast here as hearts are the predominate theme of the offerings left here.

The children loved running round counting the stones(you can never count the same number twice because of the magic) and even though there was still an icy chill in the air it didn't stop their fun.

Some of the rock climbing was an effort for Lucas, he's more cautious than Maisie who as always been a natural climber. He's very proudly fistpumping this assent.

 Here's long Meg herself, at 12 feet high she's the tallest of the stones.
